Quran Book Club with Misha Euceph & Maytha Alhassen

Misha brings back Quran Book Club with Dr. Maytha Alhassen, and they chat about community, prayer, and unity.

On this episode of Quran Book Club, Dr. Maytha Alhassen, co-host of PBS’ American Muslims: A History Revealed and writer on Ramy, and I discussed verses 3:106-3:112. The verses brought up lots of different feelings and ideas, from how similar yoga is to Muslim prayer, to practicing humility in faith, to using differences as an invitation to get to know other people, cultures, beings and creatures. The biggest question we wrestled with was how do you understand the Quran when translations are interpretations using a European, Western, colonial framework, and we no longer have easy access to 7th century Classical Arabic?

The next episode of Quran Book Club will be on Wednesday, March 26 at 4pm PST on Substack Live with Samina Ali, the author of the upcoming book, Pieces You’ll Never Get Back.
